How Location Services Work

CrossingGuard uses your device's location solely to:

Calculate distance to nearby level crossings
Send local notifications when you approach a monitored crossing

Important: All location processing happens entirely on your device. Your location is never sent to our servers or any third party.

Background Location Use

When you enable geofencing notifications, the app monitors your proximity to selected crossings in the background. This:

Uses iOS geofencing (efficient, battery-friendly)
Only checks location when you're near a crossing (within ~400 meters)
Does not continuously track your location
Can be disabled anytime in app settings

Data from Irish Rail

The app fetches real-time train data from Irish Rail's public API to display crossing status. This data includes:

Train arrival and departure times
Train positions and status
Service updates

This information is fetched directly from Irish Rail and is not stored on our servers.

Third-Party Services

CrossingGuard does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Children's Privacy

Our app does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
